Come join our team on this unique remote ranch! Season is April 1 through October 31. The Flying X Ranch is a private recreational ranch of more than 300 partnerships. The ranch is not open to the public. There are nearly 24,000 acres of meadows, mountains and canyon land here to explore! Please know this ranch is remote – perfect for some, not for everyone! The entrance is set back a lengthy dirt road and the closest town is Wheatland, WY (a 40 minute drive for groceries). It’s about 1:15 to Laramie, and 1.5 hours to Cheyenne. Our small crew of wranglers is responsible for caring for up to about 80 horses. This includes about 25 ranch-owned horses (mostly geldings, one mare) and our partners can also keep their horses here seasonally or year-round. We bring the herd in daily during the season so there is an opportunity to ride every day, though this is more than just a riding job! We take partners and their guests out on Guided Rides on weekends and saddle horses for Private Rides all week. Our Guided Rides are walk only, nose to tail in a string. We have a wide variety of trails covering all sorts of terrain that are suitable for riders of any level. Many riders are beginners and some have never ridden before. We also rotate pastures all spring, summer, and fall anywhere from right across the corrals to 4+ miles from the barn so Fridays and Sundays can be long in the saddle! In addition to guiding rides and saddling horses, regular tasks include sorting, feeding horses, taking care of the barn, basic doctoring, working with some green broke horses, checking/mending fences, maintaining trails and more. Wranglers also help out with general ranch work here, including clearing brush, filling propane tanks, running the compactor and mowing and string trimming throughout the season. The ability to drive equipment including stick shift vehicles, tractors and skid steers is helpful, but not required. This is a busy job with a lot of opportunities to learn and grow. We are looking for experienced hands but can train those less experienced who are hard-working and eager to learn. Job Duties include but not limited to: Job Qualifications: Recreational Down Time Activities: Housing & Pay: To Apply: Please send resume, three references, and a riding video to our email address listed (video should include saddling, bridling, walk, trot, and lope). You can also email us with questions or for more information. No phone calls please.
